with Pete McDonnell

1pm-4pm July 31-August 4

$230

Comics and cartooning have been a popular mass entertainment and means of artistic expression for over a century, back when the first four-color comics appeared in American newspapers in the late 1800’s. From the very beginning, comic strips introduced a whole range of stylized drawings for communicating stories and humor to audiences using adventure, humor, funny animals, sci-fi and fantasy.

In this class, comic books will reign supreme! Students will learn to use storytelling techniques like panel layout, perspective, lettering and placement of word balloons to create their own professional-looking comic stories in the style of their own choosing: Disney! Marvel! Manga! Talking animals! Graphic novels! Wimpy Kid! Bone! Captain Underpants! Superheros! There is no limit to the imagination of a cartoonist, as we will explore all the techniques in modern comic books.

Healthy snack included.
